About Vetiver · Greensboro, NC
who reads page 41 of the funding notice so your director doesn’t have to?
We do. Vetiver is a small grant-writing desk on Bass Chapel Road for organizations that don’t have a development office — community health clinics, free clinics, pantries, after-school programs. We find the funders that fit, write the package, build the budget narrative, check every page against the funder’s own list, and submit it from your portal.
Vetiver began with a plain observation about Guilford County: the people doing the most careful work were often the ones with the least time to ask for money. So we set up a desk to carry the asking — the reading, the writing, the attachments, the deadlines — and leave the program with the people who run it.

holds the ground
Why the name
vetiver is a grass farmers plant to keep a hillside from washing away
Its roots grow straight down, far deeper than the blades stand tall, and they knit the soil together through the kind of storm that strips a bare slope. Farmers set it in rows along a terrace and then, mostly, leave it be. It simply holds.
That’s how we think about a grant. Funding rarely creates a good program — it keeps one standing through a lean year, a staffing gap, a cooler that finally quit. The narrative is what the reviewer sees. What actually carries the weight sits underneath it.
a good grant is mostly roots. — said at the desk, more than once, usually about a budget table
So the work we take most seriously is the work no one applauds: the second read of the notice, the budget line that matches its sentence in the narrative, the letter of support drafted for your partner so they only have to sign it, the attachment named exactly the way the portal expects. Get those right, and the story you tell has something to stand on.

six habits every package picks up on our desk
Written down so you know what to expect from us before you’ve asked — and so we can be held to them.
-
read the notice twice before writing a word
Once for what it asks, once for how it’s scored. You’ll have a one-page scoring map in week one, so we’re both aiming at the same points.
-
in writing
name the fee before the work begins
Flat, per package, sent to you before kickoff. If the narrative runs long or the funder adds an attachment, that’s ours to absorb.
-
the writer who interviews you drafts your narrative
No hand-off between your kickoff call and the first draft, so the story you tell us isn’t retold secondhand.
-
every number gets its sentence
Reviewers cross-check the budget against the narrative. We do it first — each line item has a reason written beside it.
-
read twice
nothing uploads without a compliance read
Page limits, margins, font sizes, file names, signatures — checked against the funder’s own checklist. Federal packages get two separate reads.
-
say so early if we can’t do it well
You’ll have an honest answer on your timeline within one business day — kindly, and before you’ve lost a week waiting on us.

Book a Tuesday kickoffWhat we’ll politely decline
a short list of things we won’t do, even when asked nicely
Every one of these has been requested at some point, by someone with a good reason. Here’s why the answer is still no — and what we do instead.
-
politely declined
We won’t take
a percentage of your award
The profession’s ethics codes discourage it, and most funders won’t let award dollars pay for the proposal that won them. One flat fee, funded or not.
-
We won’t promise
that you’ll be funded
No one honestly can. What we promise is a complete, compliant package in the funder’s hands before the deadline — and a frank read of any reviewer comments afterward.
-
We won’t borrow
another organization’s narrative
Your story is written from your interview and your numbers. Reviewers in the same region read the same pile; recycled language shows.
-
We won’t accept
a deadline we can’t meet well
If the timeline is too tight to do it properly, we’ll tell you within one business day — and help you plan for the next cycle instead.
-
your portal, always
We won’t submit
from an account that isn’t yours
Every package goes in from your own portal login, with your written authorization, and the receipt lands in your inbox the same day.
-
always
What we will do, every time
send every file home to you
The final narrative, the budget and the spreadsheet behind it, the logic model, the signed letters, the timestamped receipt — yours to keep, reuse in reports, and hand to whoever comes next.

When you’re ready
tell us the funder and the date — we’ll take it from there
You’ll hear back within one business day with whether we can take it, which package fits, and the flat fee in writing. If it isn’t a fit, we’ll say so and point you somewhere useful.
